What's in a Name?

Amrita or Amrit is Sanskrit and literally translates to "immortality".

There is a legend called Samudra manthan, which means "ocean churning".
In it the gods are cursed by a sage, Durvasa, and begin to lose their immortality. They get together with the asuras, which are their enemies, and begin to churn the ocean. (As legend goes, it was made of milk at that time :p). They churn and churn and create several wonderful things, one of which was Amrita, the nectar of immortality.

Also, in yogic philosophy, amrita is the fluid that flows from the pituitary gland down the throat in deep states of meditation. :3 Which is pretty epic because some yogic texts say that just one drop is enough to conquer death. (^.^)b

Prakriti, to put it very, very simply, is nature. Probably a more accurate description would be, it is the "primal motive force" (as described in the Bhagavad Gita).

So ponder that for a bit (^_~)b
